Free rope

When you cut up old clothes for rags (you do, don't you??), cut alongside the seams and keep a few on hand for lightweight rope. Depending on the material and type of seam, these can be sturdier than you might think. Tie them together for a longer rope.

I've also braided these seams to make stronger ropes. When I come to the end of 1 of 3 seams, I sew it to another seam with a back and forth zigzag stitch. I try not to have 3 joinings in the same place in the braid.

I also have made rope from salvege edges doing the same thing.

Regards, Peg
